Zhiwei Chen recently presented an Everlaw webinar on customs and trade compliance, “How to Manage PRC Customs Risks Relevant to Your Royalty Payments.”

China customs launched nationwide audits or investigations on royalties paid by companies in the industry of automobile and electronics since 2015. The targets were reported to be further expanded to companies in medical, machinery, cosmetics and apparel industry. Zhiwei shared with the audience on Feb. 7 the latest legislative and enforcement developments in this area and Bryan Cave’s experience helping multinational clients effectively deal with China customs’ audits or investigations on royalties paid to their overseas licensors.

Zhiwei concentrates his practice on international trade, customs and regulatory compliance law. He regularly helps multinational clients create business strategies to optimize supply chain models, develop corporate compliance procedures and provide training, conduct internal audits or investigations and navigate self-disclosure to customs and other regulatory agencies. Clients also regularly ask him to represent them in customs audits, investigations and in dealing with seizures, forfeitures and other enforcement actions.
